Dhaka Sugar’s new refinery in Bangladesh is almost ready to start sugar production. One key element in its successful start is the comprehensive training of its operating staff, delivered by BMA Academy. Dhaka Sugar’s new 3,000 tpd refinery, a milestone in the history of the sugar sector in South Asia, will be setting standards in efficiency and sustainability. As well as supplying key equipment, BMA also supervised its assembly.
BMA Academy: a training programme for Dhaka Sugar
With its cutting-edge technology and considerable processing capacity, the sugar refinery requires highly trained and skilled operating staff. BMA Academy therefore developed a comprehensive training programme divided into four key modules: basic principles of sugar production, in-depth process knowledge, an introduction to machinery and equipment in the refinery, and technical knowledge of instrumentation, automation and operation.
BMA Academy, BMA’s centre for education and training, has as its mission to deliver sound technical knowledge and the practical skills required in the sugar industry.
BMA Academy gets team ready for start of production
In the run-up to the official commissioning, both the offices and the control centre at the Dhaka Sugar refinery have been extremely busy: the entire sugar refinery team – operators of the individual stations as well as engineers – have been acquiring all the information they need about the plant and its processes. The sugar refinery has several stations, each playing its part in the overall process, and each requiring specific knowledge, so all items of machinery and equipment can be precisely controlled and monitored.
BMA Academy ensures efficiency in energy usage
The crystallisation step alone comprises more than 100 items of equipment, and there are around 80 in sugar drying. BMA Academy has provided an experienced BMA team that guides participants through the course, explaining each item of machinery and equipment in detail: its structure, function and role in the overall refinery performance. One key objective of this training is the production of high-quality sugar and the efficient use of raw materials, energy and water. Another focus is error prevention and maintenance, to prevent malfunctions.
