Revolving-arm mingler

Revolving-arm minglers are used to melt the surface of sugar crystals in a mixing medium. A crystal suspension (magma) results, which is kept in constant motion by stirrers. They ensure that the crystals and the mixing medium form a homogeneous mixture, flowability of the magma is maintained and no solids settle on the bottom of the tank.

Use of crystal suspension in downstream processes

Crystal suspensions can be used in different downstream process steps:

  • Melter – full melting of, for instance, raw sugar in a refinery
  • Batch pan – the magma formed after centrifugation can be used as seed massecuite
  • Centrifugation during affination – colour reduction through downstream centrifugation

Functions

Size reduction & homogenisation

Sugar crystal conglomerates are fed through a trough-shaped grate in the product inlet into the first compartment of the revolving-arm mingler, where they are further reduced in size by several revolving arms installed on an agitator shaft. In a downstream compartment, agitator arms with paddles stir the mixture to form a homogeneous crystal suspension.

Homogeneous product structure

Thanks to the special paddle geometry, a homogeneous product structure is achieved and caking of the tank avoided.

Level control

The filling level can be controlled by a discharge pump or overflow valve.

Tank design

Designed as a U-shape trough with a flat cover, the mingler provides a rectangular inlet for a chute or crystalline sugar.

Automation

Revolving-arm minglers are suitable for automated operation with controlled discharge of the product and level control, permitting seamless integration into a continuous process chain.

Benefits

  • A homogeneous crystal suspension is formed that ensures stability of the downstream processes
  • Reliable process control, as caking can be avoided

Model sizes / variants / customisation

Revolving-arm minglers are built as U-shaped troughs, with diameters ranging from 1,000 to 2,500 mm. The individual size is determined by process requirements.
