Focus on energy efficiency with falling-film evaporators

Evaporation
In the sugar manufacturing process, juice is extracted and purified and then concentrated from ~12 Bx (dry substance content) to ~70 Bx in industrial evaporators configured as multiple-effect systems. With the evaporator station as the single largest consumer of low-pressure exhaust steam, the full benefits of energy efficiency measures in the downstream and upstream processes can only be reaped if the evaporation station is tailored to the overall process.

Beet and cane processing: BMA FFE and process engineering

In beet and cane processing, falling-film evaporators are a tried and tested technology for concentrating juice to syrup before crystallisation can start. The falling-film evaporator (FFE) from BMA is designed for the efficient concentration of sugar juice under controlled thermal conditions. Since the juice flows downward along the heating tubes as a thin film, high heat-transfer rates can be achieved even with short residence times. This operating principle supports energy-efficient water removal, lower losses due to sucrose degradation, and consistent thick-juice/syrup quality.
