Successful sugar extraction with BMA equipment
Extraction is the first essential step in sugar production. It involves extracting sugar (sucrose) from plant-based raw materials to produce juice for further processing. BMA provides specialised systems for both cane and beet processing that ensure efficient operation and deliver consistently high-quality juice.

Cane processing: BMA cane diffuser and BMA bagasse diffuser
In cane processing, the BMA cane diffuser is used to extract sugar from prepared sugarcane stalks. Hot water flows through a bed of shredded material, washing out the sucrose and collecting the sugar in an extract known as raw juice. Among the benefits of this diffuser are continuous, stable operation and a high extraction rate. The BMA bagasse diffuser works similarly to the cane diffuser but is fed with bagasse from a first cane mill instead of shredded cane stalks.

Beet processing: BMA extraction plant
In beet processing, sugar from sliced beets (cossettes) is transferred into the liquid phase in the BMA extraction tower, the most important part of an BMA extraction plant. The counter-current flow of water and cossettes ensures efficient sucrose diffusion, producing raw juice of consistent quality for the downstream processing steps.
Shared goals
Both systems are designed to maximise sugar recovery and support smooth, efficient processing in preparation for the next steps in sugar production: juice purification and evaporation.
