Dafeng Yinmore Sugar

Construction and commissioning of China’s most modern sugar refinery – engineering and core process equipment by BMA

A state-of-the-art raw sugar refinery was built on a newly acquired site near the port of dafeng (Jiangsu). BMA was responsible for the conceptual, basic, and detailed engineering for the core process, as well as for the supply of virtually all key equipment—from raw sugar dissolution to drying/cooling. Production began in December 2018, followed in 2020 by a performance run with remote support and top-tier performance metrics.

Initial situation & challenges

Sharply rising sugar consumption in China: Domestic production is not meeting demand, and imports of raw sugar are on the rise.

Bright Food Group’s Strategic Approach (since 2014): Construction of a non-standard, high-performance refinery with maximum throughput and minimum OPEX—as a benchmark project.

Location factors: Development of a new industrial zone on reclaimed land; simultaneous construction of infrastructure (housing, utilities) around the Port of Dafeng.

Project Requirements: High technical complexity (4,000 t/d class), an ambitious schedule, and close coordination between international engineering, EPC, and local construction.

Engineering

  • Development of a basic concept, including a customer-specific technology architecture, KPIs, a preliminary P&L statement, and balance sheets.
  • Basic engineering: Preparation of mass and heat balances, P&IDs, and equipment lists.
  • Detail and piping engineering: Integration of all details into a 3D plant model for the final layout, construction, and piping design of the sugar house.
  • Roles & partners: EPC China Haisum (turnkey plant); BMA China as the key local partner; international subcontractors for conditioning and packaging.

Scope of the project

01

International project mode:

Braunschweig (process, basic/detailed design), BMA Russia (piping/3D modeling), BMA China (local coordination), BMA America (commissioning support).

Installation milestones:

Braunschweig (process, basic/detailed design), BMA Russia (piping/3D modeling), BMA China (local coordination), BMA America (commissioning support).

  • Q3 2017: Start of installation of all BMA process stations in the “sugar house.”
  • September 2017: Installation of the 12 batch pans → Roof closure before winter, weather protection.
  • Late 2017: Start of assembly of the FFE station.
  • Spring 2018: Installation of the VKT and cooling crystallizer; completion of major components.
  • Followed by final assembly: 11 Batch centrifuges (E1810) and 5 K3300 units.
