Start-up scheduled for 2023 – with a processing capacity of 3,000 t/d
BMA has been commissioned by Oman Sugar Refinery Company via Jebsen & Jessen Industrial Solutions GmbH to supply a sugar refinery. The refinery shall be characterised by state-of-the-art technology and a high degree of automation, so that it can be operated with an optimal energy consumption at high efficiency.
The first sugar refinery in Oman
The project will be implemented by an investor, who already runs three sugar factories in Tanzania and a small sugar factory in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. To date, no sugar has been produced in the Sultanate of Oman, which is why the country is fully dependent on sugar imports to cover its demand.
This was reason and motivation for the investor with Omani origin to build a new sugar refinery in Oman. The ground required for this project is located directly at Sohar harbour.
Started with basic and detailed engineering
The project comprises the construction of a new sugar refinery with a capacity of 3,000 tons per day and a sugar quality of maximally 45 ICUMSA. In 2019, BMA was commissioned with the basic engineering and part of the detailed engineering, which were completed and handed over in the very same year.
The order comprises many different plants
In Mai 2021, the contract for the supply of equipment and the supervision of assembly and commissioning of the refinery was signed, tasking BMA with the following:
- Basic and detailed engineering
- Juice purification station
- Batch pans
- Vertical vacuum pan VKT
- Evaporator station
- Batch and continuous centrifugals
- Massecuite pumps
- Slurry mills
- Sugar drying and cooling
- Automation of the plant including software and hardware
- Supervision of assembly
- Assistance in commissioning
Goals: low energy input, high sugar yield
The project is targeted at a low energy consumption, a high sugar yield, an efficient operation, and compliance with the strict environmental regulations. The whole project and especially the process engineering part are subject to high quality standards that are fully met by BMA.
The plant equipment including software and hardware for automation and instrumentation will be supplied this year. The sugar refinery is scheduled to come on stream in 2023
